Virtual Career Insights Event:

26th-28th October 2020

We recognise that visiting hospital sites, interacting with staff and experiencing a hands-on approach is preferable, however, we hope you understand that this not possible at the moment. Hence, our Virtual Careers Insights Programme aims to replicate the previous delivery as closely as possible. We will be having a mixture of live presentations, live demonstrations, pre-recorded virtual tours, Q&A sessions, in addition to tasks for participants to undertake.

The benefit of hosting this event virtually is that we have a near unlimited number of spaces available and we are able to invite Year 10 & 11 pupils from all schools across the Morecambe Bay footprint. The event is being hosted via ‘Microsoft Teams Live Event‘, which means that participants will be able to watch videos and can interact with the presenters and producers, through a chat function in order to ask questions.

Register your interest in participating in this event by emailing us at: work.experience@mbht.nhs.uk

We hope you enjoyed our showcasing of the amazing Allied Health Professional careers throughout the AHP Celebration Day. We posted across Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok. We shared a bank of really interesting and insightful pre-recorded videos and photographs for each profession – many clips including our own local staff! We hope our content gave you a greater insight into these roles.

Our Staff Stories

Martin Schofield - Respiratory Nurse

When did you first start working in healthcare and where did you do your training?

I began my nurse training in 1993 in Harrogate in Yorkshire.  I worked in Manchester and Southport.  In 1999 I joined Furness General Hospital.  I worked in the Emergency Department for several years then left in 2010 to work in the Community.  I then came back to Furness General Hospital in 2015.  It is a really great place to work!

Ashutosh Kale - Consultant Paediatrician

What was it that made you want to go into the profession you’re in now?

My father was a doctor and my role model as a child, and that’s why I followed in his footsteps. I like to help and treat children and hence I became a paediatrician.

Debbie Collins - Ward Manager

What do you enjoy most about your career?

I would have to say that the overall team atmosphere is one of the things that I love the most It is such a dynamic environment and by working here there is a real opportunity to actually have an impact on the quality of care in the area, which is something that I am really proud of being part of.

Craig Anderson - Reporting Radiographer/Clinical Tutor

What are the benefits of working at this Trust?

I can confidently say there are lots of opportunities to advance here. I’m about to start my post grad for a ‘skills mix’ course. We’re fairly progressive and we’re linked to the University so we’re definitely hiring some amazing talent to the Trust.

There is also a great team spirit here which I don’t believe you will get a bigger hospital. Everyone is very friendly, and even though I work higher up in the department now, I still have a good relationship with those who I manage.  There are no barriers by a job title in the Trust and that is really nice!
