CLINICAL DUTIES

Day to day care of patients on the medical wards.  This includes participating in the clinical care of patients during some weekend shifts

When in a General Medical rotation, post holders are considered to be members of the Cardiac Arrest Team and will receive continuing training in this field during their time in post.

To clerk patients and keep up to date histories and records regarding patient care.

To keep a job list up to date and accurate regarding all patients

To write clear, accurate and legible clinical details pertaining to TTOs

To write clear, accurate, legible and approved drug and fluid prescriptions

To supervise Foundation Year 1 trainees on wards and on call

Such other specific clinical duties as allocated by Consultants.  The junior doctor accepts that he/she will also perform other duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation where practicable with his/her colleagues both senior and junior.

This is a replacement Specialty Doctor post at the University Hospitals Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. It represents a wonderful opportunity to take up a post in a friendly and well-equipped District General Hospital, whilst enjoying an excellent quality of life in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  

Our Team consists of 9 Orthopaedic Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 7 middle-grade Speciality Doctors, 2 SPRs (ST3), one CT’s, one Trust Doctor (at CT level), two foundation year 2 doctors and 3 foundation year 1 doctors.   

You will be part of a 1 in 9 middle-grade on-call rota and when on-call will be expected to support an emergency orthopaedic service required of a level-two trauma centre performing all common trauma operations. For patient safety and to allow multiple sites working, all patients admitted acutely are seen daily on a “Keogh” ward round by an orthopaedic consultant or SAS and the post holder will perform a proportionate share of these ward rounds. 

You will rotate amongst consultants in the department (12 monthly rotation). The department encourages all the Specialty doctors to work towards FRCS (T & O) exam and there is an in-house FRCS T&O viva practise course held biannually.  

Upon taking up the post the successful candidate will be offered a Consultant mentor. The Trust will expect you to take part in CPD and will support you with a study leave allowance. The Trust is committed to a process of annual appraisal and you will be expected to use the MYL2P website to aid this process. The same will be used to support the revalidation process. 

The post holder will undertake 12 PAs Where travel between sites is required appropriate time will be factored into job plan and and travel expenses will be paid. 

As a University Teaching Hospital it will be expected that the post-holder supports the teaching of medical students from Lancaster University. There will also be opportunities with the University to get involved with examining medical students and in conducting research.
