An Opportunity has arisen within Elderly Medicine on Ward 20 situated at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) in Lancaster.

Ward 20 is a 24 bedded Care of the Elderly ward.  We are looking to employ registered nurses with elderly care experience who wish to be involved in improving care for frail and elderly patients whilst they are inpatients.    Our patients have varying medical conditions, but often also need a wider input from the therapy and complex discharge  teams to ensure safe and timely discharge.  We have a pro-active discharge philosophy to avoid unnecessarily  long stays.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse, who has  a passion and love for nursing older people, to join and be part of our  hardworking and committed team.

We can offer you dedicated training and support to enhance your skills in this area.

The Services we provide:

Children’s Inpatient, Day Care, Assessment and Outpatients

Our Children’s inpatient services provide compassionate care for Children and Young People from 0 to 16 years of age across two busy sites, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.  The unit’s provide care for a mixture of specialties and to a wide range of conditions including High Dependency Care.  Out of normal working hours our staff provide support and assistance to the Emergency Department.

 

The units encompass inpatient, day care and assessment services for our communities.  We also have dedicated Children’s Out-Patient departments on both sites.  This all ensures a rich variety of experiences and development for our staff.

We have permanent vacancy for a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner 15hrs  per week  flexible hours considered, to work alongside the Community Matron and Assistant Practitioner within an evolving Integrated Care Community (ICC). By working with patients to promote self-management, the aim of our service is to contribute to a reduction in hospital admissions and improve the quality of life for people living with Long Term Conditions. BCSP Specialist Screening Practitioner Band 6  – 37.5 HOURS per week

Post based in Kendal – Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

This is an exciting, innovative and substantive post working as part of the local team for NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in England. You will have a key role in the specialist team who deliver the bowel screening to the Cumbria and Morecambe Bay population.  We are seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals to work within our team.

The screening practitioner acts as the patient’s advocate, supporting them and their carers to navigate and make informed choices through all stages of the screening process. You will pre-assess patients for colonoscopy and discuss findings and diagnosis of colorectal disease.

Advanced communication skills will be required to assist in complex decision making, and dealing with sensitive issues.

The Screening Practitioner will be involved in health promotion activities with our local Public Health services to encourage access to screening by all sections of our society.

Participation in the screening training module at Liverpool John Moores University ( 40 credits at level 6) is mandatory and fully funded.

 

You will work collaboratively with the Programme Hub to co-ordinate and provide care from the screening centre. The post holders will be expected to adhere to and review clinical practice, work with the screening hub in the administration and audit of the service and utilise research to inform practice.

 

Your role will include delivery of clinics within the community, support of the patient and carer through Colonoscopy and Bowel Scope as well as attendance at multi-disciplinary team meetings in the relevant Hospital Trusts. The above post is based at Cumberland Infirmary with clinics held at Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital. The post requires staff to work flexibly, including covering absences of colleagues across the Cumbria & Morecambe Bay BCSP; there is the possibility that you will need to cover clinics and lists at Kendal, Barrow and Morecambe.   Candidates should note that the future expansion plans for the service may require working patterns for Saturdays and some evenings.
