This is an exciting time to join the medical division at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with the opening of our new acute stroke unit.

The service allows all patients with suspected acute stroke to be admitted directly to a dedicated Acute Stroke Unit under the care of a stroke specialist multidisciplinary team.

The unit is a 6 bedded unit with 1 admission/assessment trolley. In addition the unit will be staffed to the British Association of Stroke Physicians (BASP) recommended staffing levels for acute stroke beds. This will be 2.9 nurses per bed with a ratio of 80:20 trained to untrained. Following the acute phase patients will be moved to Ward 23 which is a 24 bedded unit which hosts patient undergoing rehabilitation The unit is supported by the stroke team (ANP and CNS) and staff are all encouraged to undertake specific stroke training. Again BASP staffing guidelines will be adhered to.

We are looking for dynamic nurses to work in the unit and be involve with the evolution of the stoke pathway. There will be a focus on the development of robust systems for clinical governance, which will give assurance to the division. The development of the professional education is also an important aspect of this role, as it will ensure that staff are equipped with the right skills to carry out their roles. To enable staff to be involved in the whole stroke pathway, Staff will have opportunity to work  on the acute stroke unit and undertake rotational posts to update skills on all areas of the stroke pathway including outreaching to the Emergency Department, and on the Stroke Rehabilitation Ward.

You will also be supported to attend the ward management development course.

The department is committed to appraisal, to support continuous education and professional development. Applicants will be required to participate in providing 24 hour cover.

Ward 36 is a busy Orthopaedic Trauma ward – admitting Orthopaedic trauma 24 hours per day, including most trauma / fracture neck of femurs, fractures to lower & upper limbs.

Royal Lancaster Infirmary Emergency Department see’s approximately 5000 patient each month, as a Registered Nurse with us you will be able to work across all areas of the specialty including Triage, Minor Injuries and Illness (Ambulatory Pathway), Majors (Clinical Assessment) and in our Resuscitation Room as we are a Trauma Unit receiving road and air ambulances from the as far as the Lake District. As a part of the Medicine Care Group we are partnered with the Acute Medical Unit and Ambulatory Care Unit providing Emergency Care to the South Lakes and North Lancashire.

We are a supportive multi-professional and multi-agency team working with our integrated Children’s and Young Peoples Nurses, Adult Mental Health Liaison Team and Hospital Ambulance Liaison Officers along with specialist Nurses who in-reach.

Ward 23 is looking to recruit an experienced Band 5 registered nurses to join our dynamic and forward thinking team. Ideally, you will have experience in nursing patients who are either in the acute stage immediately following a stroke or participating in the ongoing care phase of active rehabilitation after a stroke.

We are a 24 bedded ward specialising in stroke care and rehabilitation. We enjoy a close relationship with the clinicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapy and dieticians. You will be expected to proactively engage with these professions to provide the best quality care and outcomes for our patients. You will participate in providing and sharing information throughout the day, to patients and their relatives, at ward rounds and at regular ward multidisciplinary meetings.

You will be expected to participate in internal rotation onto night duty and to work over 7 days.

There will also be a further rotational opportunity with the Acute stroke unit-Huggett Suite

You will be encouraged and supported to mentor student nurses and junior staff nurses and to provide support to all team members through a proactive approach to managing your daily workload and appropriate delegation. Excellent communication and time management skills are a necessity to this position. You will be encouraged to develop your nursing skills, mentorship and you will be supported to undertake additional training and study days.

Complex Case Manager – Hospital Discharge Team           

We are looking for applicants who would like to come and work with the discharge team at UHMBT RLI based.

The ideal candidate must be professional registered with a good level of knowledge and experience within hospital discharge. They must have a track record of successful multiagency working and have knowledge of the pathways available to support patients to leave hospital. The post requires a degree of flexibility and the ability to work autonomously in conjunction with other stakeholders to ensure a safe transition from hospital.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate that they are forward thinking, dynamic and can implement developments to achieve efficient high quality services. The ideal candidate needs to embrace change as we move towards a whole system for discharge planning 7 days a week and be able and willing to travel across multiple sites and to community settings.

Kendal locality has an exciting opportunity to recruit to a 22hr permanent band 5 post in the South lakes out of hours service based at Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal. The evening and night services provide essential support to enable patients to be cared for at home and covers from 6pm to 8am.

This is a New & Exciting Opportunity for TRAINEE NURSING ASSOCIATE

This is a new nursing support role that will bridge the gap between the role of a Health Care Support Worker and a graduate Registered Nurse.

You will attend University in pre-set blocks and have some ad-hoc self-directed study days alongside your clinical practice. Each year you will undertake 1150 hours protected learning time in a range of practice experiences, where you will be supported by practice supervisors/assessors to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a registered nursing associate. Some of these will be within your own workplace, whilst others will allow you to develop differing skills and experience to include working with children, adults, older adults, people with physical and mental health needs, people with learning disabilities and in a range of settings including home, close to home and hospital. There will be opportunities to undertake placements across UHMB and some partner organisations. You will remain in your usual place of work for the remaining hours and you will also have a work based portfolio to complete, and academic assignments.

Nursing Associates will be able to administer medication, undertake venepuncture, physical health observations, care plan, risk assess and many more clinical skills relevant to the area in which you train

The Nursing Associate programme is a 2 year programme and you will be paid under Annexe 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and conditions which is:

  • Year 1 – 70% of the top of a Band 4
  • Year 2 – 75% of the top of a Band 4
  • leading to Band 4 upon completion of academic study and accreditation
