Ward 20 is a busy elderly care ward which has a focus on multidisciplinary team working, dementia care and a keen eye for developing staff.  Medical Unit 2 where Ward 20 is based is a friendly site with excellent educational opportunities and support.

An Opportunitiy has arisen within Elderly Medicine on The Acute Frailty Unit situated at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) in Lancaster.

We are looking to employ registered nurses with elderly care experience who wish to be involved in improving care for frail patients. The Acute Frailty Unit is a 15 bedded assessment unit with a specific assessment criteria. Nurses involved in care will assess. impliment and evaluate care needs for frail patients in order to facilitate early discharge. The Frailty unit is supported by Eldely Consultants and a care of the eldely team of nurses.

This is an ideal opportunity to be involved with the continous development of the frailty unit and to re shape the pathway for the frailty patients within the Morecambe Bay Area.

Ward 23 is looking to recruit an experienced Band 5 registered nurses to join our dynamic and forward thinking team. Ideally, you will have experience in nursing patients who are either in the acute stage immediately following a stroke or participating in the ongoing care phase of active rehabilitation after a stroke.

We are a 24 bedded ward specialising in stroke care and rehabilitation. We enjoy a close relationship with the clinicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapy and dieticians. You will be expected to proactively engage with these professions to provide the best quality care and outcomes for our patients. You will participate in providing and sharing information throughout the day, to patients and their relatives, at ward rounds and at regular ward multidisciplinary meetings.

You will be expected to participate in internal rotation onto night duty and to work over 7 days.

There will also be a further rotational opportunity with the Acute stroke unit-Huggett Suite

You will be encouraged and supported to mentor student nurses and junior staff nurses and to provide support to all team members through a proactive approach to managing your daily workload and appropriate delegation. Excellent communication and time management skills are a necessity to this position. You will be encouraged to develop your nursing skills, mentorship and you will be supported to undertake additional training and study days.

Ward 35 is a busy Orthopaedic Elective ward – undertaking all complex Surgery, including lower & upper limb specialty’s.

Ward 36 is a busy Orthopaedic Trauma ward – admitting Orthopaedic trauma 24 hours per day, including most trauma / fracture neck of femurs, fractures to lower & upper limbs.

Both ward managers, Sue Calvert (Ward 35) and Carol Farrar (Ward 36) are keen to expand their teams, educate staff in Orthopaedic care and really develop their services moving forward.

Both are busy wards, with exciting learning opportunities. Full Preceptorship in progress, with support.

The Langdale Unit is a step up step down unit based on the Westmorland General site.

The wards accept step up patients from the GP’s locally via the Urgent Treatment Centre, and step down patients from RLI and FGH wards.

The unit works closely with the Integrated Care Communities, Local GP’s, Adult social care and hospital discharge teams.

The service supports people with a wide variety of conditions including elderly care, frailty and falls, orthopaedics and long term condition management including palliative care for residents of south lakes . We facilitate a rehabilitation programme to enable patients to return home as soon as possible.

Working together to deliver care to patients you will need to:

  • have experience of working as a trained nurse within the NHS with a desire to develop your clinical skills further
  • demonstrate and evidence your own professional development
  • demonstrate your ability to work independently when necessary
