Applications are invited for three Consultant Anaesthetist posts with an interest in ICU, based at Furness General Hospital. You will join an expanding department of 9 Consultants (inc these 3 posts), 12 Associate specialists, 2 Specialist doctors and 1 FY2 doctor (shared between ICU and surgery). You will participate in a 1 in 8 second call-rota for ICU. You are expected to cover theatre sessions at Furness General Hospital and sometimes Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal.

The Anaesthetic department supports all the general services of the hospital including a busy Accident and emergency department, maternity, gynaecology, orthopaedics and trauma, Eyes, ENT and general medicine.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the department at a time we are going through significant service transformation change as we expand the first call rota of associate specialists to allow two resident senior anaesthetists working in tandem doing 12 hour shifts supported by the non-resident ICU consultant(these posts). We are also starting a rolling Consultant of the week system in Intensive Care on prospective 1:8 rota from September 2019. We have recently opened the purpose built South Lakes Birthing Centre on site which is fully supported by a 24/7 epidural service. Furness General Hospital is a lovely, friendly small district general hospital on the south west coast of the Lake District. Westmorland General Hospital is located on the outskirts of the popular Lakeland town of Kendal. The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust provides undergraduate medical training for Lancaster Medical School students, as well as academic/research links with Lancaster University.

Both hospitals are situated in areas of outstanding natural beauty, which offer superb outdoor and recreational activities close to the Lake District. There is access to the M6 motorway via A590 and a direct rail link to Manchester and its airport from both sites. There are good schools in the town and surrounding area.

The department is staffed with a good skill mix which consists of Consultants, SAS Doctors and Junior Doctors. In addition there is a strong nursing team including an evolving team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

This post is  available Full Time 10PA’s up to a maximum of 12PA’s, or Part Time.

We are looking for a passionate colleague who is proficient in Stroke Medicine to provide acute medical and rehabilitation care to our patients. You will contribute in providing a high quality TIA Service. A new, modern Acute Stroke Unit was opened in September 2017 alongside a long-established Stroke Rehabilitation Ward. You will see patients in the Acute Stroke Unit, the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (Ward 23), the TIA Clinic, and undertake Out-Patient Clinics. You will also be allocated time for SPA and clinical administration work.

The Stroke Service is a Consultant-led Service which is supported by two full-time, Stroke Nurse Practitioners who provide a seven day service, a full team of junior doctors (1 staff grade, 1 training ST3+ doctor, 1 IMT doctor, 1 FY2 doctor and 2 FY1 doctors) as well as skilled ward-based nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues who are enthusiastic in providing the highest quality of care.

The Royal Lancaster Infirmary provides an active acute thrombolysis service and also makes use of the specialist Telestroke On-Call Service out of hours and at weekends. There is an opportunity to join the general medicine On-Call Rota, Telestroke On-Call rota, or both

The post supports continued development of the Stroke Service and you will work alongside two existing Stroke Consultants, as well as a wider Care of the Elderly Team and General Medicine colleagues. You will also liaise with Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery and Vascular Surgery Teams, as well as Stroke Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Matrons, Ward Managers, Nurses, Therapists and Secretaries, to assist in providing excellent care to our patients at all stages of the patient’s hospital journey. You will provide clinical leadership to a dedicated team. Candidates should be able to show leadership in developing services for patients on the stroke pathway, which includes the TIA service and future plans for an ambulatory service

We are looking for a substantive Consultant to join the Orthopaedic Team working at our hospitals in Barrow-in-Furness and Kendal.You will undertake 10(+2) PAs including 1.5 SPAs and 1 admin PA. A further 1 SPA can be awarded if justified (this will be reviewed within 12 months of taking up the post). On-calls will be at Furness General Hospital a level-two trauma centre, on a 1 in 9 non-resident basis..

You will be expected to develop the lower limb orthopaedic services offered by the Trust and provide the highest quality care to the local population. You will be supported by your own middle-grade doctor. Ward support will be provided by the 2 FY1 Drs, 2 CT level Drs, 3 advanced nurse practitioners and the trauma coordinators. The administrative burden will be supported by a named secretary and waiting-list coordinator. Upon taking up the post you will be offered a consultant mentor.

You will work within the department alongside consultant, staff grade, trainee doctors and advanced nursing colleagues to deliver elective and emergency services, consistent with the Trust’s strategy and values. You will lead the team around emergency assessment, decision making, and elective and emergency operating.

In addition, the Trust is committed to the educational development of Surgical staff and was awarded the status of University Hospital in 2005.

There may be some assistance towards relocation expenses or travel costs.

You must hold full GMC with a licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining your CCT/CESR at the time of interview

Interview expenses will be paid from point of entry to the UK.

Please note the interviews are to be held week commencing the 27th April 2020.

We will consider an NHS locum appointment for up to 12 months.
