An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Consultant Haematologist to join our team of 5 Consultants at University hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust. Our department seeks to provide a dynamic, friendly and clinically-led service across all three of our hospitals, Royal Lancaster Infirmary in Lancaster, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and Furness General Hospital in Barrow in Furness.  

The job plan is for 11PA’s although this can be flexible and successful candidates may have an opportunity to negotiate job plans. There is considerable opportunity for an appointee to develop sub-specialist services across the trust.

Lancaster University is a leading UK institution which now boasts its own independent medical school. Research and education opportunities are plentiful.

You must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and entry on the Specialist Register or within six months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview.

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Palliative Medicine. This is an additional appointment to join an established Palliative Medicine team, currently consisting of three Consultants. This is an integrated role across both community and acute hospital settings, whilst working collaboratively with two local hospices, St John’s (Lancaster) and St Mary’s (Ulverston).

There is a well-established Clinical Nurse Specialist team which includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Non-Medical Prescribers, and which covers both the acute and community settings. We are proud to work alongside our innovative bereavement team, and are fortunate to have excellent administrative support.

There is a strong ethos of multidisciplinary working within the Palliative Care team across the Bay and we work collaboratively with the psychology, chaplaincy and complimentary therapy teams; as well as pharmacy, social work and other allied health care professionals. Morecambe Bay has 9 integrated care communities and we work in partnership with our colleagues in Primary Care. There is a good relationship with the local anaesthetic pain specialists who provide an excellent pain assessment and anaesthetic intervention service.

Morecambe Bay forms part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Palliative and End of Life Network, creating a strong alliance with neighbouring centres.

Lancaster University is the home of the International Observatory on End of Life Care. We continue to build strong relationships with the team there, creating a powerful voice for both clinical and academic palliative care in the area.

The Trust has a keen interest in medical education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students from Lancaster Medical School receive the whole of their education, academic and clinical, in Cumbria and North Lancashire. The Palliative Care team is actively involved in undergraduate medical training, which includes placements in the 4th year, and support for Special Study Modules. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to support the further development of Palliative Medicine education in this area.

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious, dynamic individual to join our committed and well integrated multidisciplinary team, providing high standard care to the local community.

We are looking for a passionate colleague who is proficient in Stroke Medicine to provide acute medical and rehabilitation care to our patients. You will contribute in providing a high quality TIA Service. A new, modern Acute Stroke Unit was opened in September 2017 alongside a long-established Stroke Rehabilitation Ward. You will see patients in the Acute Stroke Unit, the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (Ward 23), the TIA Clinic, and undertake Out-Patient Clinics. You will also be allocated time for SPA and clinical administration work.

The Stroke Service is a Consultant-led Service which is supported by two full-time, Stroke Nurse Practitioners who provide a seven day service, a full team of junior doctors (1 staff grade, 1 training ST3+ doctor, 1 IMT doctor, 1 FY2 doctor and 2 FY1 doctors) as well as skilled ward-based nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues who are enthusiastic in providing the highest quality of care.

The Royal Lancaster Infirmary provides an active acute thrombolysis service and also makes use of the specialist Telestroke On-Call Service out of hours and at weekends. There is an opportunity to join the general medicine On-Call Rota, Telestroke On-Call rota, or both

The post supports continued development of the Stroke Service and you will work alongside two existing Stroke Consultants, as well as a wider Care of the Elderly Team and General Medicine colleagues. You will also liaise with Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery and Vascular Surgery Teams, as well as Stroke Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Matrons, Ward Managers, Nurses, Therapists and Secretaries, to assist in providing excellent care to our patients at all stages of the patient’s hospital journey. You will provide clinical leadership to a dedicated team. Candidates should be able to show leadership in developing services for patients on the stroke pathway, which includes the TIA service and future plans for an ambulatory service

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a part-time Restorative Consultant  5.5 PA  post. This post is to replace a retiring consultant, to join the oral and maxillofacial department to provide the restorative consultant input.

The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with potential to work at other sites serving both Lancashire and South Cumbria patients.

For the successful candidate the job plan will be negotiable.

The Unit provides a comprehensive secondary care service in all aspects of restorative dentistry. The service provides advice and treatment plans to local dentists as well as enjoying multi-disciplinary working alongside colleagues in orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. The restorative service has developed a managed clinical network in south cumbria for endodontics which, supports the service. Discussions have started with the local commissioners about an MCN in restorative dentistry and the successful candidate would be able to become involved with is. Links have been developed with Lancashire Teaching Hospital, [the regional centre for Head and Neck cancer treatment] to allow local patients to be treated locally.

The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for UClan students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLan.

There are offices, secretarial and computer facilities on all of our sites. We have and electronic EPR and PACs system for radiography and digital photography across the Bay.

There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with high quality and skilled technical support.

The posts are based at Furness General Hospital which is one of the sites within University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust (UHMB) which was established in April 1998 following the merger of three Trusts in the area. The Trust provides an extensive range of acute, emergency and continuing care to a population of 350,000 in South Cumbria and    North Lancashire.

Furness General Hospital is a modern District General Hospital located on the edge of Barrow-in-Furness. A new maternity unit is due to be opened in February 2018 providing state of the art accommodation (admission to discharge family rooms with on suite accommodation) for women and their babies. It serves the population of the Furness peninsula and the surrounding part of South Cumbria.

The Women’s Unit at the Furness General Hospital undertakes approximately 1,000 deliveries per annum and provides a Maternity Unit with the Special Care Baby Unit, Antenatal, Gynaecology, Colposcopy & Outpatient Hysteroscopy Clinics and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit . Trust Associate Specialist in Ophthalmology based at Furness General Hospital (10pa)

Applications are invited for this post, based at Furness General Hospital (FGH) a District General Hospital situated on the fringe of the Lake District National Park.

We are looking for a Trust Associate Specialist to join the clinical team at Furness General Hospital. The post holder will be contracted for 10 sessions per week and will include an on call pattern on a rotational basis. The Department of Ophthalmology across the three main sites presently consists of 9 Consultants, 10 Associate Specialists.

The local area offers choice and for those keen to maintain ties further afield, the city is just two and a half hours from London and Glasgow by direct rail transfer and just one hour’s drive from Manchester and Liverpool, with all these destinations offering international travel options.

This vacant Consultant post is based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, which is in the center of the City.

With approximately 60,000 attendances per year, our department has a workload to keep you interested and challenged, but still give you time to talk to your patients properly, and do the practical procedures that interest you as an Emergency Physician, whilst delivering excellent patient care We are also a Trauma Unit practicing ETC models of trauma care and take an active role in the Trauma Network. The department is staffed with a mixture of Consultants, SAS Doctors (24/7 middle grade rota in operation, with two MGs on nights) and juniors. In addition there is a strong nursing team including an evolving team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Associates.

These posts are available Full Time 10PA’s up to a maximum of 12PA’s, or Part Time. The consultant position attracts a Recruitment and Retention Premium of enhanced pay for out of hours PA’s (2 hours per PA for DCC). This is subject to annual review by the Trust.

In addition, The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. We are the lead NHS organisation and take responsibility throughout the five years of the degree for the provision of acute practice placements and fifth year medical students from Lancaster Medical School spend two months on attachment to the Emergency Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to support the further development of Emergency Medicine in this area.

You must either be on the GMC Specialist Register with a license to practice in Emergency Medicine or be within six months of obtaining your CCT award (or equivalent) at the time of interview.
