Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Palliative Medicine. This is an additional appointment to join an established Palliative Medicine team, currently consisting of three Consultants. This is an integrated role across both community and acute hospital settings, whilst working collaboratively with two local hospices, St John’s (Lancaster) and St Mary’s (Ulverston).

There is a well-established Clinical Nurse Specialist team which includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Non-Medical Prescribers, and which covers both the acute and community settings. We are proud to work alongside our innovative bereavement team, and are fortunate to have excellent administrative support.

There is a strong ethos of multidisciplinary working within the Palliative Care team across the Bay and we work collaboratively with the psychology, chaplaincy and complimentary therapy teams; as well as pharmacy, social work and other allied health care professionals. Morecambe Bay has 9 integrated care communities and we work in partnership with our colleagues in Primary Care. There is a good relationship with the local anaesthetic pain specialists who provide an excellent pain assessment and anaesthetic intervention service.

Morecambe Bay forms part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Palliative and End of Life Network, creating a strong alliance with neighbouring centres.

Lancaster University is the home of the International Observatory on End of Life Care. We continue to build strong relationships with the team there, creating a powerful voice for both clinical and academic palliative care in the area.

The Trust has a keen interest in medical education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students from Lancaster Medical School receive the whole of their education, academic and clinical, in Cumbria and North Lancashire. The Palliative Care team is actively involved in undergraduate medical training, which includes placements in the 4th year, and support for Special Study Modules. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to support the further development of Palliative Medicine education in this area.

This new Consultant post is based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, which is in the centre of the City.

Our department has a workload to keep you interested and challenged, but still give you time to talk to your patients properly, and undertake the practical procedures that interest you as an Acute Physician, which will enhance patient care. The department is staffed with a good skill mix which consists of Consultants, SAS Doctors and Junior Doctors. In addition there is a strong nursing team including an evolving team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

This post is  available Full Time 10PA’s up to a maximum of 12PA’s, or Part Time.

In addition, UHMBT has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. We are the lead NHS organisation and take responsibility throughout the five years of the degree for the provision of acute practice placements and medical students from Lancaster Medical School spend time on attachment to the department.

We require an enthusiastic individual to join the Education Centre team at FGH to work full time hours, Monday to Friday. 

You will be a member of a small team providing a contact point for all centre visitors, dealing with enquiries, taking centre room bookings and preparing rooms for meetings, particularly equipment and teaching aids. You will also provide administrative support within the centre supporting Foundation teaching programmes, education meetings and other centre activities.

Previous experience would be advantageous and good communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and to work flexibly are essential. We can now offer the opportunity either a Consultant or Trust Associate Specialist to join our high-performing, experienced and innovative Dermatology team. This team provides exceptional out-patient care and you will be able to practice the breadth of skills associated with the specialty, including carrying-out minor excisions and operational procedures as well as conducting the whole range of skin cancer care, delivering phototherapy treatment services and provide Advice & Guidance to community based Primary Care colleagues. You will be involved in developing the way dermatology care is provided to our patients, maintaining our high quality patient-centred service.

We would consider developing special interest clinics to fit with a subspecialty interest. There is also the potential to design, develop and deliver a Private Patient service in Dermatology in this location.

There is no on-call associated with this post.

Medical Students from Lancaster Medical School receive the whole of their education, academic and clinical, in Cumbria and North Lancashire following the Liverpool undergraduate medical curriculum. Fifth year medical students from Lancaster Medical School spend two months on attachment to the department. University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust operates on three main sites situated at Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow-in-Furness and has approximately 1,200 beds with a wide range of medical and surgical specialties.

Westmorland General Hospital is situated in Kendal, on the edge of the Lake District with easy access to a host of countryside activities including walking; climbing etc.

We are looking for an enthusiastic radiographer with training and experience in the Cardiac Catheter Lab to join our friendly team, working 3 days per week at a total of 22.5 hours. Applications from qualified Radiographers, who wish to progress their career in the Cath Lab are welcome to apply as training can be given if required.
You will be expected to participate in working in the main department, performing plain film examination and theatre work, as well as taking part in a rotation through the Cath lab.

The department carries out of full range of investigations, including Plain film, theatre, Cardiac Cath Lab, MR and DEXA, and we work an extended day up until 10pm, but there is no overnight working.

The Trust uses Sectra PACS and Sectra RIS, which was installed in 2017.

This is a progressive directorate that supports CPD and role development.

A rare opportunity has arisen in the Neonatal Service at Furness General Hospital and we are looking to recruit Band 6 Neonatal Nurses that have experience in the care of the preterm and sick infant and are qualified in specialty. The post will be primarily based at Furness General SCBU, however all posts are Cross Bay.

The Special Care Baby Unit is integrated into the brand new Maternity Unit, South Lakes Birth Centre. It is a Level 1 unit caring for babies born from 32 weeks gestation and has four special care cots plus a dedicated stabilisation facility for sick and preterm babies born at any gestation who are then transferred to a tertiary unit via a dedicated Network Neonatal Transport Team if required. There is also a two-bedded Transitional Care facility for those babies who do not require admission to the Special Care Baby Unit, however require additional support from the Neonatal Team, whilst preventing separation of the babies and their parents.

The Neonatal Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) is a level 2 unit, including 1 intensive care cot, 2 High Dependency cots and 7 Special Care cots.

We are looking for a highly motivated Band 6 OT  to join the care of the elderly team at FGH. The chosen practitioners will be able to work independently and as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care to frail elderly patients using tools such as early ED reviews, comprehensive assessments, early discharge planning and community links to ensure appropriate care for each individual.
